Words cannot express how thankful I am for all the incredible people that have opened their hearts and homes to me since January 1st, 2009. Schooling: The Hidden Agenda

I suspect that not everyone in this audience knows who I am or why I’ve been invited to speak to you to day. After all, I’ve never written a book or even an article about home schooling or unschooling. I’ve been called a number of things: a futurist, a planetary philosopher, an anthropologist from Mars. Recently I was introduced to an audience as a cultural critic, and I think this probably says it best. As you’ll see, in my talk to you today, I will be trying to place schooling and unschooling in the larger context of our cultural history and that of our species as well.

My Mission

The “Jolly Geography” project is an educational tool for children of all ages to experience a country that unfortunately in this day and age is sometimes viewed as unsafe. Through my bike trip, I take kids through the country at a pace where they can experience things that they  cannot learn in the school setting. I would like to demonstrate the value of the great opportunities and random kindness of others not often learned in the school environment. Through the wacky journey I hope to inspire and teach that it is ok to go after what you believe in, to live your dreams, and to keep communication open from child to parent. Through a healthy
